• You know we’re coming to the end of the US election campaign when the tactics of the candidates take on a negative angle. The last couple of weeks we’ve seen turmoil on the global markets with markets crashing around the world including our own. With the US economy headed for a recession and job layoffs are already occurring, the year ahead looks very rocky. And this is all happening during an election campaign, all the more reason to pick some who can step-up and take control of the mess. Due to the financial crisis issues relating to the environment have taken a back seat during the campaign. While there’s been some mention of the energy crisis and how it’s tied to the economy the environment is playing second fiddle to the economy. Saying that the two candidates do differ with their plans in tackling the environmental crisis we’re experiencing.

John McCain’s approach to solving the energy crisis and our reliance on the Middle East for our oil is to open up Alaska to drilling. This is a double edge sword approach. While we’ll stop US money heading overseas and the cost of gas will come down for motorists, the environmental impacts will be devastating for Alaska. Regardless of the spin oil companies will put on it, the environment will be affected greatly if oil drilling is allowed to go ahead in Alaska. Barak Obama has changed is tune when it comes to oil drilling in Alaska, at first he was against but now he’s considering it. The change was brought about due to public opinion, which is very much in favor of cheaper gas than environmental concerns at the moment. McCain is all for nuclear power while Obama is looking at alternative energy options to solve the energy crisis. Both candidates are following party policies when it comes to environmental policies. McCain is continuing the conservative approach while Obama is being a little more progressive. Either way the longer the finical crisis continues the less importance is placed on the environment and for good reason if people are getting laid off just surviving is the most important thing. So, who’s better for the environment? On paper Obama looks the best person to tackle the environment but saying one thing and delivering is two total different things.

Moving is full of positives, firstly you get a new place and secondly you get a chance to start over again. We’ve all fallen into the trap of saying we’re going to do things around the home but we never get around to doing it. Moving houses is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the clean slate. Before you get settled in your new place try to incorporate some green initiatives, which will help the environment and your hip pocket at the same time.

First off, go around the house and replace all the light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs. This will help reduce your energy bill by 25% each year. If you’re going to do any repainting around the house, choose latex paint instead of oil based paint. Latex paint releases less harmful gases into the environment. If you have a yard, grow your own vegetables and fruit if not, buy locally grown vegetables and fruit at your grocery store. Most of the large supermarkets ship in their vegetables, which is using up valuable fossil-fuels. A way to reduce our reliance on coal fired power stations is to sign-up to renewable energy providers, who get a percentage of their energy from renewable sources.

A little thing to reduce co2 gasses is the planting of trees and plants around your home. If you don’t have a yard, add plants inside your home, they’ll look great while being good for the environment. When moving homes people forget about their plants and many times throw them out. If you’re like me and you’ve spent heaps of time caring for your plants, you’re not going to part ways with them in a hurry. Most moving companies will accommodate plants when moving. Check-out this article from USA Express Moving which goes into detail about caring for your plants when moving.

There’s a war going on between housing developers and environmentalists involving the ever increasing appetite of Americans wanting to live in environmental sensitive areas.  It’s not a new trend, people have always lived right on the beach or in mountain hideaways but, with the changes in the environment, governments should be stepping in and halting anymore development before it gets out of hand. To reinforce the issues of living in environmentally sensitive areas there have been a number of natural disasters, including the Californian wildfires and the recent hurricanes which should be putting people of moving into these areas. At the end of the day there are some areas of earth, man should leave undeveloped and left to nature, instead of high-rise condos.

I’m still amazed even after all the news coverage in the USA regarding the environment people are still continuing to move into these areas, which should be set aside and protected. The long-term effects of people living in these areas are still not fully understood but the early signs are not good. Developers are only interested in making money and rarely take into consideration the environmental impacts of building in environmentally sensitive areas. Unfortunately the environment has taken a back seat once again during the political campaign and is only mentioned briefly when the candidates talk about drilling for oil in Alaska. It’s up to the consumer to take the lead and stop buying these beach-front developments because if we don’t the long-term results could be disastrous for the planet.

Sarah Palin’s record on the environment is abysmal, Rick Steiner was quoted as saying, a professor of the University of Alaska and I have to agree with him after reading his article posted on a major USA newspaper website. We may be headed for four more years of no action regarding the environment, thanks to John McCain’s choice in running mate, just not what the world needed at this time. Out of all the developed countries in the world, the USA has the worst record when it comes to the environment. Our refusal to sign the Kyoto agreement puts us in the same category as developing countries, moving us further out of favor with Europe.

Palin, who hails from Alaska, has failed to tackle any of the pressing environmental issues facing her state since been governor of Alaska. With the ice caps melting at express rates, the time for action is now but, unfortunately Palin’s actions have sided with the oil companies. Moving the environment to the front and center of this USA election campaign is not going to happen, especially when we have other pressing issues, including the economy and the war our only hope is McCain or the Democrats, or maybe it’s our turn to stand-up and take a stand.

Polar icecaps are melting at quicker rates than first expected, scientists have reported. While the USA is not inline to be struck by an express moving icecap, there are concerns over the environmental impacts the melting icecaps could have on the region.

Weather patterns that have occurred for hundreds of years in the USA will be moving to new models. These changes can drastically change the country’s landscape greatly. Some areas will receive higher rainfalls while other areas will experience droughts. The south will experience express moving storms that will move inland causing flash flooding. The northeast will experience more extreme weather occurrences, including serve fast moving snow storms to extreme hot weather patterns. Some parts of low lying USA will experience flooding from rising sea levels, this issue is not just restricted to the USA but many Caribbean Islands will be affected. Some shipping routes in the far north of the Atlantic maybe affected by express moving icecaps.

While the notion of icecaps moving down the USA coast is extreme the real issue is already happening thousands of miles away. The breaking up of the North Pole’s icecap is a very serious issue; one the USA government should express immediate action on to prevent a global disaster from occurring in the future.

Express ways were supposed to solve traffic problems but in reality they’ve made things worse for people moving around the USA. A story repeated across the USA is the problem of express ways that are choking under the strain of more people moving around then ten years ago.  Express ways that were designed to carry ex amount of vehicles are now carrying double the amount of traffic. With the population in the USA growing at a fast rate, many cities are struggling to keep up with the public transport infrastructure required to keep up with the demand. The end result is people are turning to cars in hope of moving around more quickly.

With rising fuel costs the USA government needs to take action to address the issues faced with people moving around this country. The combination of new express ways and public transport infrastructure will help people of the USA get moving again.

You have to feel for Mathew Moon, a snake moving handler from Australia who has been denied 3 times by the Australian government for a gas claim, which would cover his gas usage. Instead the government has told Mr. Moon that if wants to continue moving these dangerous reptiles he has to use public transport, which is a bus in his local area. This is ridiculous; the local government should express pay him some reimbursement for his efforts so he doesn’t danger lives by catching a bus. I just wonder what the situation is like in the USA. I like to think in the USA that the government agencies have a better system in place for moving dangerous reptiles unlike in Australia. The priority is to express move these dangerous animals away so they don’t harm any lives.

With the USA government set to open up drilling in far North Alaska many new roads and express ways will need to be built to meet the demands of the new project. But many people in the USA are outraged at the new plans which they believe will hurt native wildlife. Moving animals from their fragile eco system is not an option says many conservationists. The USA government says they have no other choice except to start drilling because of the countries reliance on oil. Personally they shouldn’t begin exploring for oil because once they start drilling we all know what follows; the express ways, the diners and everything else attached with city living.
